Michelle Obama sat down with Ellen DeGeneres this week for her first televised interview since leaving the White House. During this interview, she shared some surprising tidbits about how her family is adjusting to post-White House life. .

The Observer reported that Michelle surprisingly revealed that her 16 year-old daughter Sasha got the best bedroom in the family’s new Washington D.C. mansion.

“Sasha actually killed it in this house,” Obama told DeGeneres. “She has a two-room suite [and] it’s all decked out. She has like a living room area and a bedroom…She designed it.”

Michelle added that her husband Barack got majorly shortchanged in the home.

“Oh no, no no. He – no, no, he still talks about this,” Michelle said. “He got so shortchanged on this whole deal. He doesn’t have enough closet space… sorry! He’s got the smallest room for his office.”

When asked where Malia sleeps, Michelle made it clear that her oldest daughter really got shafted in their new home.

“She’s got a room up in the attic somewhere,” Michelle said. “Yeah, you don’t waste rooms on college kids.”

During this same interview, Michelle spoke out to whine about how “awful” life is in the Trump era.

“All we have is hope,” Michelle said. “People are afraid, but then there are people who feel good about the direction of the country, so I mean, that’s what makes this country complicated because it’s made up of so many different people from different backgrounds.”

“The thing I learned in the eight years that I was in the White House is that what we do every day in our lives — the good things that we do every day and we know we do it: we show empathy, we care for each other, you know, we do have a lot in common,” Michelle continued. “That’s what it means to lead with hope, and not fear. I would just encourage your viewers, the country, to do the things we do every day: to love each other, to take care of each other, to show empathy – and you can’t do that only when people make you feel good or safe. We’ve got to do it all across the board.”

“We have to be an open-hearted nation and that’s who we are,” she added. “So, let’s just keep living our lives like that every single day and forget what they’re saying in Washington. That’s not necessarily who we are. We know who we are.”
